RSS International (RSSI) travelled to the Far East recently to share roads policing expertise in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Supported by the Department of International Trade, RSSI Directors Trevor Hall and Adam Briggs met with government officials and senior police officers to discuss road safety and enforcement strategy.

Both countries face enormous road safety challenges, with high casualty rates and large numbers of crashes involving power two-wheelers.

RSSI had previously worked on several projects in Malaysia, but this was the first time they had visited Indonesia.

RSSI delivered a detailed presentation in both countries that highlighted global road safety and the latest strategies and technologies that support enforcement practices.

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the party met with Deputy Director of Investigation and Land Transport, ACP Shahrum Bin Hashim. The Malaysian Traffic Police were very interested in developing technology and improving the training of their officers.

After the meeting Mr Hall said: “We have been very well received and the police are eager to exchange good practice and explore new ways of working.”

In Jakarta, Indonesia the team experienced at first hand the driving conditions that are challenging the authorities, with tens of thousands of low powered motorcycles competing to make progress on the old city roads.

Mr Briggs said: “The authorities are working very hard to deal with these problems but the numbers involved make the situation seriously difficult.”

The Indonesian Traffic Police have 40,000 officers across the country. RSSI met with the Head of the National Traffic Police Corps (pictured above) and his senior officers.

There was an excellent exchange of information and an agreement to look at ways to collaborate further.

In 2017, RSSI received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category, in recognition of the company’s efforts to reduce road casualties across the world.
