Support Graham's cycle challenge
A longstanding Serco employee is in his final few weeks of training before embarking on a daring cycle tour across Britain to raise vital funds for road safety.
Graham Brain, who has worked for Serco for 27 years, will be setting off on a 1,500 mile cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End on May 20, 2013 calling at 11 extreme geographical points along the way.The 62-year-old will be cycling for around 50 miles every day over 35 days in aid of Brake, the road safety charity.
Graham is looking for keen volunteers to hop on their bikes and join him on part of the tour or to help the cause by sponsoring this ambitious challenge.
During the trip he will pass through locations such as Dunnet Head, the most northerly point in the UK; Whalley, the most central point; Holme Fen, the lowest point and he will even climb up Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK.
Graham has spent 24 years working in Serco’s traffic enforcement market serving police forces and local authorities across the UK. He has now decided that he would like to make his own personal contribution to road safety.
Every day five people die in collisions on Great Britain’s roads. Graham is hoping that his challenge will not only raise money but will also raise awareness about the importance of road safety.
Graham said: “When you consider the shocking number of people that are killed and injured on our roads, we need to do as much as we can to reduce casualties.
“I’m hoping that this challenge will help to raise the profile of road safety and the excellent work carried out by Brake.
“It is going to be tough, but this important cause and the support of fellow cyclists and sponsors will help to get me through.”
Brake is an independent road safety charity which exists to reduce deaths and injuries on our roads and to provide support for families bereaved and seriously injured in road crashes. It relies on donations from individuals like Graham, companies, and charitable grants.
Rich Andrew, senior development officer at Brake, said: “Brake is incredibly grateful to Graham for undertaking such a huge challenge to raise awareness about the vital importance of road safety and to fundraise for Brake.
“His incredible efforts will help us continue spreading life-saving road safety messages and supporting families who have suffered the devastating consequences of road crashes. We would urge anyone inspired by Graham’s challenge – whether companies or individual volunteers – to join him where they can on his route, sponsor him, or do their own fundraising cycle ride for Brake.
“We can’t thank Graham enough for his fantastic commitment to promoting road safety and wish him all the best on his challenge.”
