Road Safety Support speed laboratory
marks World Accreditation Day 2020

04.06.2020

Road Safety Support's speed calibration laboratory is joining forces with other organisations across the globe today (June 9, 2020) to mark World Accreditation Day 2020.

World Accreditation Day is a global initiative established to promote the value of accreditation, which is the formal recognition that an organisation is competent to perform specific processes, activities or tasks in a reliable, credible and accurate manner.

In 2018, Road Safety Support was awarded ISO 17025 by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to test the accuracy of speed cameras, vehicle speedometers and other devices, either at our dedicated UK testing track or on any road across the world.

The laboratory is one of just a small number of its kind worldwide.

More and more vehicles are now being built with integrated digital speedometers, which has posed a problem for police forces. Speedometers can no longer be removed and calibrated in the traditional way.

RSS recently developed a method for calibrating digital speedometers at its ISO 17025-accredited laboratory. The method is much quicker than the traditional analogue calibration process and does not require the display to be removed from the vehicle.

This service will assist police forces and vehicle manufacturers in proving the degree of accuracy of individual speedometers, no matter what type of speedometer is fitted in a vehicle.
