OBE for road safety stalwart
A former police officer who has worked tirelessly for over 40 years to reduce deaths and injuries on the UK's roads has been awarded an OBE.
Jerry Moore, who is the Operations Director for the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS), was recognised with the accolade in the New Year's honours list.
During his career, the 62-year-old served with the Metropolitan Police, Essex, Avon & Somerset and Norfolk forces, retiring at the rank of Chief Superintendent in 2010.
Jerry’s passion has always been road policing, and 14 years ago he became the National Road Policing Liaison Officer for the Department for Transport and the Home Office, a job he has continued over the past four years as a civilian.
Speaking of the award, Jerry said: “Road policing has been my love, for the feeling you are doing something which will save people.
“It’s my life and one of the most important things. If I can save just a few more people from dying on the roads that would be fantastic.”
He added: “It was a shock when I got the letter. It has been hard to keep quiet about it for a month, but it’s fantastic. It makes the 45 years of hard work worthwhile."
