Members of the Road Safety Support team today gathered at the roadside in Cambridgeshire to wave off brave cyclist Graham Brain on day 25 of his extreme tour across the UK.
The 62-year-old has now completed more than 1000 miles of his 1,500 mile 35-day journey from John O'Groats to Land's End.
During the challenge, which is raising money for road safety charity Brake, he is visiting 10 extreme geographical points, which have already included Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point; a trek up Ben Nevis, the highest point and more recently Whalley, the most central.
The grandfather of three, who only began cycling seriously in February, weighed in at 21-stones last year and has since lost four stones in readiness for his challenge.A road accident victim himself, at 17 Graham suffered a shattered ankle in a motorcycle collision and has since had a knee replacement, leaving him with some mobility problems. He has also spent the last 24 years working Serco, supplying speed cameras to UK police forces, which has added to his passion for road casualty reduction.
So far Graham has raised over £4,000 and is urging people to help him reach his final target of £5000. Sponsorship can be made online by clicking here.
